We continued work on our house in August. The first weekend in August we finally got our bathroom painted and put back together. I did all the edge work and then Seth rolled. Jeff also hung closet doors for us...since there were no closet doors upstairs when we moved in. He also installed some extra shelves in several closets as well as an extra closet rod for the kids room. Jeff also replaced our front door. We picked out a beautiful Craftsman Style door but the installation process was nerve racking. Phin and I went with Jeff to pick up the door. When we got back from Home Depot Jeff started taking out the old door while Phin and I ran to the grocery store. When we came back Jeff was sitting on the front porch. The new door was sitting in his truck and had bowed just in the time it took for him to take out the front door.
Jeff had called my mom and she came over to watch the house...and Phin...while Jeff and I went out in search of another door. I wasn't sure that any of the hardware stores would have the style of door Seth and I wanted...with the right swing...in stock. We went back to Home Depot and returned the door and found out they had nothing in a similar style in stock. Then we went to Lowe's and found out they didn't have anything in stock. Jeff's expertise came through and he asked if they had any returned special orders...well it just so happened that they did...in the style we wanted...in the size we needed...and with the proper door swing. We ended up getting a pretty amazing deal on a much better door than we had originally chosen. Looking back the whole ordeal may have been a blessing in disguise...but it sure didn't feel like that at the time.
Phin is my constant little shadow. It is really kind of fun to have a buddy all the time.
We had a lot of rain at the beginning of the month. Phin loved playing outside in the puddles. He also played quite a bit in the rain gutter water.
We pulled out the clippers for Seth's haircut and Phin climbed right up into the chair. So Seth decided to give him a trim...it was nice to have no tears this time around.
The Tour de Utah came through Bountiful. Phin and I walked down to Main Street to check out the festivities.
Phin also took his first trip to the ER in August. I say first...because all of the nurses and doctors said they thought for sure they would see us back there due to Phin's adventurous spirit. Phin acquired quite the hemotoma (goose egg) at the Farmington Station playground. We had gone out to do little shopping and had stopped to play at the playground. Phin was doing great and climbed a tall ladder all on his own. He ran up to me after he did it and proudly said "I did it." He headed up a second time when I saw him start to struggle. I got up to help him and before I could get there he fell...about 5 feet. He hit a rung on his way down. When I picked him up I saw the hematoma immediately. It was awful. I was a mess. My dad called just at that moment and his office is just a couple of blocks away. So we headed over there to get some ice. By the time we got over...the hematoma was even bigger. I was pretty sure at this point that we needed to seek some medical attention. I was worried Phin might have gotten a concussion. My Dad took us into the office of their risk management person and he recommended that we definitely go to InstaCare. They generally recommend that if you take a fall from more than your own height that you seek medical attention. Traffic was backed up and I kept reaching back to comfort Phin. When we got to InstaCare he wasn't acting like his normal self...I'm sure he had quite the headache by then. After about 20-30 minutes of observation they recommended I take him to Primary Children's. We loaded back up in the car. It was nap time so I had a very hard time keeping Phin awake on the drive. We visited with the triage nurses and were checked in immediately. When we got to our room Phin started to act more like himself. We were probably at Primary's for an hour or two. They sent us home because he kept improving. We stopped at A&W after for a free root beer float. Then we headed over to JB and Mary's to watch their boys while they headed up to Girls Camp for the night.
Seth met us after work and drove all of the boys to our house for a sleepover. I headed out to volunteer at Salt Lake Gaming Con. From what I am told the boys had a great time playing legos and watching a movie. The next morning I loaded the boys up and headed to Dick's for some chocolate milk and doughnuts.
We also spent some time at Bountiful City Park.
The next day Mary was sweet enough to watch Phin while we headed to the Gaming Con with Scott and Kristy. Our favorite new game was iello's The Hare and the Tortoise.
Phin looked pretty banged up for a few weeks. Here is a picture of him taken 5 days after the accident. They warned me at the hospital that all of the blood from the hemotoma would start to drain down and pool near his eyes.
I haven't had many pregnancy cravings...but in August I took quite a few trips to a local specialty drink store called Fizz. My favorite drink is called a "North Shore." It is Sprite with mango and peach puree, coconut flavoring and fresh lime. We made enough stops in August that on one trip Phin said "drink" as we pulled up in the parking lot. I decided to spoil him this trip and got him a special kids drink called "Sharks in the water."
I headed back to work in August. My school doesn't have air conditioning so it has been hot...and quite unpleasant. I am just grateful to be back at the same school this year and to have the supportive administration that I love. We celebrated my first day back by heading to the demolition derby. Phin loved watching the cars crash. It was nice to check this one off our summer bucket list.
We held our first BBQ at our house. It was nice to be able to host family and friends and our backyard worked quite nicely. We only got one photo from the night...Mom and Scott relaxing on the hammock. I think this is Seth's favorite spot in the yard.
Seth's work had a Summer Party at Boondocks. Phin was limited by his height on the rides he could ride...I was limited by my big belly. We did ride the bumper boats quite a few times. We also spent quite a bit of time in the arcade.
Sarah and Kate came down from Idaho to visit Lagoon and we tagged along. Phin and Kate get along pretty well and it is fun to watch them together. I love that Kate calles him "Phinner."
We got a rare treat and were able to see both lions out on their perches.
We didn't know that two kiddos could fit in the whales. These two giggled throughout the entire ride. Phin also had his hands up in the air for part of the ride...we couldn't quite figure out where he learned that trick.
Phin and Kate's favorite ride by far was Red Rock Relay. They laughed each time their car made the quick turn.
Sarah also took Phin on a new to him ride...the swings.
Phin and Aaron got to spend some quality time together on a day that Collette and I were both working. My mom sent this picture of them "swimming" across the bar stools.
We signed Phin up for his first Lowe's Build and Grow project. He and Seth built Thor's Chariot. Phin loved using the hammer.
We live right next to an Elementary School and were delighted to find out that they leave there tether-balls up all the time during the school year.
We finished off August the same way we started Summer...a BBQ up City Creek Canyon with our friend Dave.
Well there was August. I have to say that as sad as it was to see August come to an end, but it means that we are in September...which is the month we hope to meet our Baby Girl.
