Anniversary

We celebrated our anniversary twice...once on the actual date and then again on the weekend.  On Wednesday we went to Lamb's Grill for dinner.  Seth took me to here the night we got engaged.

We headed to the Salt Lake Temple for a session and sealings.  We had a little time before the session started so we visited the temple model in the visitor's center.  If you haven't seen it yet, you should stop by, especially if you have kids.

We finished the night off with a little marzipan.  We decided not freeze our wedding cake last year...instead we started the tradition of a fresh cake every anniversary.

Friday evening we headed up to Park City.  We had planned to do some mini-golf at the Park City Mountain Resort but their mini-golf course was pathetic...so we decided to hit up the outlets instead.  The next morning we headed to the Utah Olympic Park.  This is the site were athletes from the country come to train.  We saw lots of jumps, flips and tricks.

We watched the flying aces show after eating a picnic on the lawn.  The group jumps were definitely the most impressive.

We also visited the museum and learned about the history of skiing.

We also watched a few bobsleds round the track.  Next time we hope to ride in one.

We drove back to Salt Lake and caught Captain America at the movie theater and then finished the day off with a trip to the taco street cart.  Happy Anniversary!

One Year = Wedded Bliss

A year ago I married my best friend and our happily ever after began.  One year down...eternity to go...can't wait for all the blissful moments ahead.

Super Saturday

This past Saturday .we started the morning out by taking in the last Harry Potter movie.  Matt and Emily joined us for the epic conclusion to this film franchise.  We were lucky enough to get some free glasses and wands...as well as drinks and doughnuts. 

I found the picture below in my Facebook archives.  It was taken the night the final book came out.  We pre-ordered our books and picked them up at midnight.  My sister has questioned why everyone seems to be so obsessed with Harry Potter...after reading 7 books...you get a little invested.  

After the movie we headed out to Lagoon and spent the day hanging with Jamie and Jotham's family.  We caught this picture of them on BomBora.  

Then we headed to a s'mores party up Millcreek canyon with some friends.  It was fun to visit with friends we haven't seen for almost a year.

Then we headed up to Snowbird Ski resort to enjoy a relaxing remainder of the weekend with Sarah and Joe.  They had a beautiful two bedroom condo with a personal hot tub that they offered to share with us.  It was absolutely beautiful up there.  

Hazel Mae and the Full Moon

Hazel Mae, our newest niece, arrived July 13th.  We couldn't resist the opportunity to meet this little one in the hospital, so on Friday we drove down.  Hazel's very talented mother took the picture below.  We can't wait to see pictures of all the moments she captures.

After our stop at the hospital we drove up to Sundance Ski Resort for a Full Moon lift ride.  It would have been very romantic...but almost every other person coming down the lift was shouting "Marco" as they passed.  Nevertheless a good time was had by all.

Draper Temple

This past week we visited the Draper temple.  We ran into a few friends and a little wind on our way out.

ReAL vs Dallas

Last week we went to a ReAL Salt Lake Soccer game.  My favorites: the huge flag making its way across the fans, the sunset, and the 2-0 score.

July Bride

My cousin, former flatmate and good friend got married last week.   Anne and Jared were sealed in the Boutiful Temple on July 8th, exactly one year after their first date.  Anne looked aboslutely stunning in her dress.  This beautiful bride is also very talented and made her own wedding cake.

Best wishes to Anne and Jared as the drive off into the Wyoming sunset.  I can't wait to hear about the adventures that will occur as this city girl turns into a rancher's wife. 

2nd & 4th of July

Saturday, July 2nd we went on our 2nd Annual Fireworks hike.  This time we actually made it all the way to Bountiful.  It took us about an hour an a half and the wildflowers in the meadows on top of the mountain were beautiful.

The sunset over the Great Salt Lake was beautiful.

This is the spot that we ended up at.  We started here but were hoping to get a little closer...after a half hour detour we decided to return to this site.

We forgot bug spray and were eaten alive by mosquitoes.  We won't make the same mistake next year.

The fireworks were spectacular.  It was fun to sit on the mountain away from the crowds and soak in the fireworks.

July 4th we watched the fireworks from my parents roof.  I almost kicked the ladder over on my way up but luckily it didn't tip.  The new firework regulations allowed the whole valley to light up.

Powder

Last week we ventured out on a hike and Powder tagged along. We started out hiking to Ensign Peak and then continued up along the Bonneville Shoreline trail to the radar stations above the peak. We were scouting out a new trail for our planned Bountiful Fireworks hike. Powder was loving the hike until we got past the first radar station...then she started to slow down. We turned back to come back home and she started to limp pretty bad. I was afraid she was developing arthritis in her rear legs like our dog Wolfie did.

Seth and I took turns carrying her down the mountain.  At one point we put her down to see if she would walk and as we started to walk away she looked at us like "you are seriously going to leave me here."  She absolutely refused to be carried like a lamb.  After a long journey home we realized that Powder did not have arthritis in her rear legs...she had blistered and burned her front paws.  For the next two days she couldn't even walk out to the yard or to the garage door to get a treat.  We wrapped her paws up and she was all better by Friday...It took almost that long for our arms to recover from carrying her down the mountain.
  

The story doesn't quite end there...early Tuesday morning I woke up to the noise of Powder in the room above me.  If you know Powder you know that she rarely makes a noise...I convinced Seth to come upstairs to check on her with me.  Powder seemed to be fine so I moved her into my parents room and went back to bed.  About an hour later I found out everything wasn't fine...Powder was having seizures about 15-30 minutes apart.  She has never had a seizure before.  We loaded her up in the car and I held her as she had another seizure on the way to the Pet Hospital.  She stayed the night and was put on some anti-seizure medicine.  When we picked her up the next evening she was relieved to see us.  She was a little drugged up and her back legs weren't quite working.  She has been whining almost non-stop since then.  She seems to know something is wrong but doesn't know what to do about it.  Fortunately her back legs are working again today.  We wish her a speedy recovery.
