Halloween Festivities

The week leading up to Halloween was full of fun activities.  The Wednesday before Halloween we went to the Sheriff Office Trunk or Treat.  This was the first time the kids had put on their costumes.  Phin was pretty thrilled to be Captain America.  We ended up buying him a Captain America hoodie...we thought it would have more longevity than an actual costume.  He wore his Captain America mask and carried along his shield.  We went with the superhero theme and Millie was The Wasp. 

Phin even got some candy from the bomb robot.

We ran into Rapunzel and Pascal.

The next day I dropped Phin off at his school for their Halloween Party.  He decided he would be Spiderman for the party...although he really wanted to be Hawkeye...I told him I didn't have that costume so he would just have to make do.  He came home with a lunch bag filled to the top with candy.  The kids in his class visit every room in the high school as they trick-or-treat/parade through the school.  This is the rock that Phin calls the "Lion" rock at school.  He insists on stopping and roaring on it everyday when I pick him up.

After we picked him up we headed to the Children's Museum for the KUED Boofest.  It was a kickoff event for a month of reading in November.  Phin and Millie loved the decorations.

They also liked meeting Sid the Science Kid.

Phin was even brave enough to almost touch Sid.

After the Boofest we headed into the museum and played for a little bit.

Later that night we went to a Pumpkin walk.  Members of our community drop off carved pumpkins at a park.  The pumpkins are judged and prizes are awarded.  Then when it gets dark...all of the pumpkins are on display.  As we were getting out of our car we spotted a grasshopper on our car...Phin decided he would roar at it.

The Saturday before Halloween we went to a trunk-or-treat at a local grocery store. 

We started trick-or-treating inside the store and then made our way outside.

They were giving away full sized Butterfingers, bags of popcorn on lots of other goodies.

Heber Valley Pumpkin Train

Saturday, October 22nd we headed up to Heber Valley to ride the pumpkin train.  I found a good deal on KSL deals for the train ride.  I have been wanting to do this for years and was happy we finally made it happen.

We had time before the train departed to walk through the haunted train and pick out our pumpkins.  

Then we are off.  We were so happy that we had cousins to join us.  Phin loved sitting by cousin Ben...um I mean Link.

Aunt Beth, Eliza (Minnie Mouse) and Lily joined us.  

Matt, Emily and Isabelle were in the seat behind us.

The train ride was just 40 minutes round trip.  We did some dancing...listened to some violin music and enjoyed a pumpkin cookie before our train ride came to an end.

We stopped at a local park for a picnic lunch before hitting up a couple of thrift stores.  It sure was a fun day with cousins!

Cross E Ranch

Sarah, Kate and Harvey made a trip down from Idaho to visit the Cross E Ranch with us.  I found a Groupon that got us in for pretty cheap.  Before we headed to the Ranch we hit up a few of our favorite stores.  Here are Phin and Kate with their favorite find... Santa hats.

The weather was perfect for a day outside.  We met up with Amy, Zoey and Connor for an afternoon of fun.  We started our visit off by watching a pig race.

Then we went on a hayride tour of the pumpkin patch and cow pasture.

Next up was a tractor pulled train ride for the kids.  I put Millie in too and was a little nervous about sending her off...but she loved it.  She laughed as they bumped around the ranch.   This little girl is growing up too fast!

Then we headed to the Hay slides.

The corn pit was up next.

Then we headed back to the corn slides.

Phin and Kate got very comfortable on the slides and started going down head first.

Then we headed back to the corn pit to bury Sarah.

We visited the old tractors.

Phin is a sucker for big machinery...and could have spent all day sitting in this one spot.

Somehow we persuaded the kids to leave.  We absolutely love Cross E...we hope this becomes a tradition for many years to come.
