Road Trip: Part V

Our VRBO was just 3 miles from the entrance to Glacier National Park and directly on Lake Five.  In the photo below you can spot our private dock.

Silas was huge fan of the dock.

 After dinner and getting settled we had Jane braid Millie's hair and my hair.

Millie LOVED her Elsa hair.

The next morning we were out the door by 6:15 AM and headed to the trail.  The Going-To-The-Sun road was only open to the trailhead of the Trail of the Cedars. Joe had heard that if you don't arrive before 7 AM you won't get a parking spot...and he was right.  Nona walked along the first part of the trail with all of us. 

Then we headed up the trail to Avalanche Lake.

It had rained the night before and the trail was quite muddy.  

We hiked all around to the far side of the lake hoping to see a waterfall...but didn't have any luck.  We did happen across this perfect photo spot.

 

Glacier was so gorgeous.  The views like this took my breath away.

We were quite hungry after our almost 7 mile hike and loved the lunch that Collette had prepared for us.

Millie especially loved feeding Silas Cheetos.

After lunch we walked over to the river and the kids skipped rocks and built a little dam.

The rocks were gorgeous.  My favorite ones were the green ones for sure.

 

JB took some great photos of my kids.

The kids loved playing and building together...I think they could have spent all day in this spot.

Our next hike was Rocky Point which was 2 miles round trip and gave us great views of Lake McDonald.

JB played Tic-Tac-Toe in the dirt with the kids.

 

When we got back to the VRBO the kids couldn't wait to get in swimsuits and head down to the dock.

Phin was in his happy place.

Kate found horsetails and she and Millie played and played with them.

Max held Silas and Harvey on the lounger and they had a great time.

 

Sarah set up a Root Beer taste testing experiment for all of us and then we enjoyed  Root Beer floats. 

The next morning we were up bright and early.  The fog off the lake was so pretty.

I shared a king sized bed with my kiddos...

After a quick breakfast we started the LONG drive home.  The next day we had a pajamas and TV day while I caught up on laundry.  We had so much fun on the trip...can't wait for the next adventure with the family.
