Davis County Fair and Demolition Derby

We headed to the Davis County Fair in August.  We were able to walk right through the little petting zoo.  Phin wasn't so sure he wasn't to actually touch the animals.

He warmed up near the end and we think the piglets were his favorite.

The kids also got to go on a pony ride.  This was Millie's first ride and she was an absolute hoot.  She had her legs pulled up in a crouching position the whole time.  She cried when I took her off.

Phin was an old pro and loved getting back in the saddle.

The demolition derby was next.  We were pretty disappointed by the lack of entries...and over-caution.  It felt like the drivers weren't really going for big hits until the final rounds.  Phin had a great time cheering on the cars.  We had him pick one car at the beginning of each heat.  He started crying when other cars hit his favorite car.  Fortunately the "dinosaur" car he picked came out on top.

 

Cache Valley and Seven Brides

The second weekend in August we headed up to Cache Valley.  Phin loves to be at Grandma Jo's and Grandad's.  He loves playing on the step stool and hanging out with his cousins.

Millie is quite mobile these days and wants to be right next to the "big" kids when she is playing.

Jacque was so kind and took all of the girls out to lunch and then to a production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  The production was so much fun and it was so well done.  We laughed out loud during several scenes.

We left Cache Valley with wonderful memories and with bags full of fresh produce from Grandma Jo's garden. 

Cowabunga Bay

The lighting company that does work with Seth's company invited us out to Cowabunga Bay for a company party.  We had never been to Cowabunga Bay and jumped at the chance.  It was kind of a crazy night and traffic wasn't great but we made it out around 7 pm.  We enjoyed free pizza before getting wet.  Phin loved playing in their water tables.

Millie and I went down a slide...then cuddled in one of the towels.  It was an overcast and windy night so it was kind of cold.  Seth and Phin braved a few slides as well.  We also loved hanging out under the big splash buckets that drop hundreds of gallons onto swimmers below.  Overall I would say the night was a success.

Connor's Birthday Party

We celebrated Connor's birthday in August.  Connor is my best friend Amy's son and is just six weeks older than Millie.  It was a little sad to think that our babies are growing up.  Millie loved swinging in the Little Tikes car swing that was set up.

Phin loved playing in the teepee...he is starting to give some interesting faces when I ask him to smile.

Phin also loved "helping" Connor as he unwrapped his presents.

Parade of Homes and Cousins

The first weekend in August we  were blessed to have Jamie and her three youngest children down for a visit.  Friday night we met up and took Jamie to a few of the Parade of Utah Homes in Salt Lake County.  Phin got to hang out with his cousins and their cousins while we went.  We started out with the most impressive house.  It was huge...it was light and airy...it was beautiful. My favorite room was this bunk room.

The next morning Grandma Jo met up with us and after breakfast and we all went out on a garage sale adventure.  We hit some really great ones.  A local Junior High was having a fundraiser for their drill team and I was able to get some kids clothing at a great price...5 items for a dollar.

We also picked up this little jungle scene for Phin...and the Jake the pirate gear he is sporting.  I have to say Yard Sales are much more fun with cousins.

We picked up some Home Depot skateboard pencil boxes on the way back to the house...fed the kids some pizza and headed out to see a few more homes.  Mark was sweet enough to watch Phin and to build all of the pencil boxes.  The houses we saw were a little less impressive...but when you start out with the best you set a high standard.  I loved this two story playhouse in the basement of one of the homes...it even had a working door bell.

Millie was pretty good as we loaded and unloaded in her from the car to visit each house.  She did get her first taste of a dum dum when she was getting a little fussy...and although she doesn't look like it she was pretty delighted.

Tour of Utah

The Tour of Utah came through our town the first Friday in August.  I was pretty excited when Seth called and said he would be coming home from work early...which meant he could come with us to the finish line.  We walked down to Main Street along the race course which happened to go right through our old neighborhood.  We saw many of our former neighbors sitting in lawn chairs and loved being able to say hello to them and show off Millie...we moved when I was about 6 months pregnant.

The finish line area was a ton of fun.  We got lots of freebies and completed many activities.  Phin got to ride a balance bike through a little obstacle course.

We also saw this bird of prey up close.

Our favorite freebie was this cowbell.

We got a pretty great place along the finish line.  Phin loved watching the motorcade come in ahead of the bikers.

Here was the lead biker.  They did a loop and came through this area twice so this was the first time through.

This has to be my favorite picture...Phin peeking through the gate to ring his bell and cheer!

The second time through we could literally feel the rush of wind as the bikers raced past us.

Summerfest

On August 3rd we headed down to Main street for the start of Summerfest.  Our city closes off several blocks on Main and dance groups from all over the world dance in the street.  Everyone lines the street sitting on blankets and in lawn chairs.  We love this particular event because it is so interactive.  As each group ends their performance they choose people from the audience and teach them a dance.  Phin and I got up to do several of the dances.  We saw many of our neighbors and former neighbors at the event.

We watched most of the groups perform and headed back to our place once the kids started to get tired.  The festivities of Summerfest continue at the local park for the remainder of the week.
